Though wine is said to be a great de-stresser it has also been proven to have fantastic health benefits that could potentially change your life.
Research has shown that alcoholic beverages such as wine can lower your cholesterol and enhance HDL cholesterol otherwise known as good cholesterol. When consumed in moderation alongside a healthy diet it can in fact increase HDL cholesterol by as much as 20%. Not only this, higher levels of HDL cholesterol is also linked to a significantly lower risk of obtaining heart disease. The evidence of the study points towards ethanol, a component of alcoholic beverages such as wine, beer and spirits, as the substrate that can effectively lower bad cholesterol levels and increase HDL cholesterol levels.
Research also reveals that wine can adequately boost brain power over the course of just one day when consumed in moderation. A study was conducted that used over 12,000 volunteers in order to obtain the results of the effect of moderate amounts of wine on brain power. The result showed that there was a 23% reduced risk of mental decline in old age amongst moderate drinkers in comparison to those who do not drink.

On average, a man should consume no more than 2 alcoholic drinks a day whereas woman should limit themselves to only one. Although you may believe that saving up these daily ‘tokens’ until the weekend will have the same benefits as a drink a day, it does not.
